Different Pets have Different Needs

It’s incredibly crucial to keep in mind that, depending on what pet you own, different approaches and angles to keeping them safe and protected will work better than others. For example, if your furry friend is an athletically inclined German Shepard, you may want to opt for a taller fence. On the flip side, you won’t have to worry about him/her sneaking through the spacing in between your deck balusters. Obviously, your concerns will be drastically different if you own a small dog, like a Bichon Frise or Chihuahua. You probably won’t have to worry about your five-pound pup hopping over your fence, but sneaking through the spacing in between your balusters will be much more likely. Build your backyard to specifically accommodate your pet’s individual needs as much as possible and any potential issues will be greatly minimized.

Doggy Window

The gate insert at eye level, is beautiful and appealing, sure. But using a gate insert as a little window for your pet is an excellent way to give them the same benefits that you get from the gate insert. It opens up your yard even more, making it feel less enclosed while keeping your pooch safe at the same time.

We have a variety of sizes and shapes to work for any fence or pet pen. Click here to browse gate insert styles.

Jump-Proof?

The height of your fence should be, in part, determined by what pet you own. This will substantially minimize the risk of your pet being able to hop or jump over the fence. For larger pets, ensure that the fence is tall enough and for smaller pets ensure that the spacing between the rails is small. With tens of profiles, you won’t have to worry about finding an option that best protects your furry friend.

Squeeze-Proof?

The spacing between your pickets and balusters is equally as important as the height of your fence. Once again, the spacing in between your balusters/pickets will vary greatly depending on what pet you own. For medium to large sized dogs, you obviously won’t have to worry about them squeezing through, but choosing a baluster with small spacing increments is recommended for those who own smaller dogs.

When it comes to deck or patio balusters, you can easily install the balusters closer together to prevent that. Check out these DIY videos if you’re looking to take on your baluster install.
