Louvers are one of our most popular and easy-to-install products for a reason. Beyond their immediately noticeable aesthetic appeal, they’re versatile, customizable and allow you to take control of light and air when and where you need it. They’re even perfect for privacy purposes—no matter what you want from your project, louvers will be a great addition. Here are a few of the most common questions we get when it comes to our louvers (LSB48):

Q: What are louvers?

A: Louvers are adjustable slats that you can use to tailor your environment to your liking and give you a relaxing sense of privacy. They’re perfect for privacy walls, hot tub enclosures and so much more.

Q: Do the boards open fully so you can see through the entire 3.5” gap, or do they only open halfway?

A: Similar to how blinds work, you can open them flat to see out or close them in either direction.

Q: What are Nuvo Iron louvers made from?

A: Our louvers are built from durable polyoxymethylene, a strong material used frequently in the automotive field for precision parts requiring high stiffness, low friction, and great dimensional stability.

Q: I live in a coastal town and the gusts can be strong. How well do these hold up in strong winds? Would they shake in the wind if you have them open and, if closed, will they open?

A: Our louver system is designed to withstand the elements. If you live in an area that’s more prone to high wind speeds, it may be advisable to install your brackets slightly more snugly. You may also want to think about the location of your privacy wall, as well as how you install the structure and posts into the ground. Some people will opt for a shorter privacy wall as well in high wind areas.

Q: What would the assembled height be?

A: The system is designed for use with up to 48” wide x 48″ high openings. Our system is built to be customized, so you can install your posts closer together and have a shorter distance between your posts. For longer sections, we suggest installing multiple posts and sections connected which don’t exceed the 48″ wide per section. This helps the integrity of the section and tends to be the right width to help prevent boards from warping.

Q: What’s the minimum size of the side posts?

A: We recommend not using a post smaller than a 4’’ nominal post. Our louver system can also work with larger posts, but you may need to adjust where you place the actuator. Scroll to the bottom of this blog for our instruction PDF with more information.
